Snow and Squiggy

Somehow after relaxing in the deserts, mountains and hot springs of Big Bend's border country we ended up here kickin' it at Squiggy's in Penasco, New Mexico. We rolled in just before New Years and just after a snow storm that proved Wisconsinites are the baddest when it comes to dealing with the wintery white stuff. We had to meander our way up here on backroads as most of the main highways and interstates were closed. The roads looked no different than Wisconsin ones do November through March so we had to laugh. What a bunch of wussies! The schools in Albuquerque are still closed. The snowfall has really made for spectauclar mountain scenery and we only wish we had some skis or snowshoes so we could explore the backcountry. Not being properly equipped for winter outdoor adventure has led to a week of laziness involving a little too much television and some frozen pizzas. We did get out a few times to avoid complete atrophy, don't get me wrong. We explored both Santa Fe and Taos and have seen enough adobe, turquoise and silver jewelry and pottery to last a lifetime. The ride through the mountains to both these towns from Penasco is almost better than visiting the towns themselves. Even when Squiggy's driving brings on a wave of nausea. The snow and relaxation has been nice and Ruby loves her new dog friend Sasha, but tomorrow it will be time for Squig to roll us off the couch and into the van so we can again head south for warmer weather and more exploration. White Sands, alien abductions, Carlsbad Caverns, Guadalupe Peak here we come.
